Appointment of Senior Assistant Director/Assistant Director in the Housing and Safer Communities Directorate
Thank you for your interest in the post of Senior Assistant Director/Assistant Director in the Housing and Safer Communities Directorate at the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
The Directorate was established last year to re-establish the Council’s focus on housing and the landlord service, and to create the considerable synergies across community safety and environmental health. Our agenda is ambitious and exciting. With 26,000 tenants and leaseholders, we have the scale and opportunity to be a council landlord that has great services for customers, is productive and efficient, and is integrated within the council to support people when they need it. All our services help people to live safely in Greenwich, whether that be the physical safety of people’s homes, protecting the public from rogue traders, or the wider work with the Police to keep our streets and estates as safe places to live and work. Working collaboratively we have a key role in the delivery of a large and ambitious new council home building programme.
In the last year, we have made a great start: amongst many things, we launched an ambitious £40m capital investment programme, we introduced selective HMO licensing, we reviewed and rebuilt our lettings and void service, we forged a new relationship with the police across their new three borough command unit, and we reorganised our gold standard Housing Inclusion and Support service.
With one vacancy and two retirements, we now have the opportunity to build the Directorate team that will take this success forward to its next stage. We are looking for outstanding leaders who will work closely with the Director, Lead Members and together as a team to deliver an ambitious agenda, inspire our staff, engage our partners and maintain standards in a challenging economic climate. In particular, we know we cannot ‘go it alone’, but can only succeed if we collaborate with, and lean into, the whole of the Council.
To succeed in this role, you will have high ambitions and standards for your service alongside a commitment to genuine collaboration and learning from mistakes. You will have a track record of success in delivering services and transformational change either in a similar role or in a role which has been a springboard for your bigger ambitions. Either way, if you have the drive and ambition to lead a large and complex service that is focussed on making a difference for residents, and want to play a key part in a high profile, innovative, well-run Authority, then I would very much like to hear from you.
Thank you for your interest in this role. This is an exciting time to join Royal Greenwich and I hope you will take this opportunity to submit an application.
Jamie Carswell, Director of Housing and Safer Communities
